The Junior Horlicks Growth Assessment
The Junior Horlicks GAP (Growth Assessment Program) takes place across Indian cities to speak to children and their parents about nutrition. In every GAP, we keep track of children's development with play, fun and loads of learning.
In 2013, the program reached out to students and parents across 15 cities in India - connecting with a little over 1 lakh students. These included students between 2 to 6 years of age, along with their parents and guardians. The program is divided into two phases. Here is a brief description of the many activities that are done during the program.
Growth Assessment Phase 1
In this phase, we begin with an enjoyable, fun-filled activity that measures the creative expression of a child.
The Phase 1 health check up for children between the ages of 2 and 3 years includes a weight and a head circumference check up. A representative records these readings on a health card. These are then sent to the child's parents as a permanent record of their child's growth performance.
Growth Assessment Phase 2
Phase 2 includes an interactive session for parents about the "importance of nutrition in early childhood years", conducted by well-known nutritionists of the city. The workshop equips parents with the knowledge of nutrition and growth for their children.
The Phase 2 health check up for children between the ages of
4 and 6 years includes a height check, a B.M.I. (Body Mass Index) check and an immunity resistance check. This is important considering that in this age children grow in size and build their disease resistance.
